Routine dental examinations are vital if you wish to maintain healthy teeth.
Our compassionate and non-judgmental team is here to help support you in your at-home efforts and to spot and treat any developing problems with your teeth. Whilst we are very driven by having a preventive approach to stop problems occurring in the first instance, our dentists are highly experienced in carrying out complex procedures using state-of-the-art technology, should they find you could benefit from restorative care during your appointment.
What are dental examinations?
Dental examinations are an opportunity for your dentist to pick up on problems you may have developing in your mouth, but cannot spot at home yourself in the mirror. They’re also an opportunity for you to voice any concerns you have and report any unusual symptoms you may have been experiencing.
During your routine examination with us, your dentist will:
- Examine your teeth and mouth.
- Perform a thorough check for any lesions or signs of mouth cancer by carrying out a soft tissue screening.
- Search for any signs of decay or gum disease.
- Check you have a healthy bite.
- Consider the health of your teeth and mouth compared to when you last visited.
- Perform X-rays if more information is needed.
- Explain if you are in need of any treatment and outline the benefit of this to you.
Who are dental examinations for?
All adults should be attending routine dental examinations, even if they don’t feel they have any problems with their teeth. As teeth can’t repair themselves as other parts of the body can, having a dental professional examine them on a regular basis is paramount to keeping them in a beautiful and healthy condition. Many dental problems don’t show symptoms until an advanced stage is reached, and flagging concerns as early as possible gives you a chance of needing minimal treatment.
Our children’e examinations are £20 for under 16s.
Why attend dental examinations?
We understand how your smile can affect your confidence. Everybody wants a smile they can feel proud of but also be safe in the knowledge that they have strong and healthy teeth.
If you’re dissatisfied with your smile, don’t worry as there is always a way forward. Your dentist will be happy to discuss a treatment plan to address the aspects of your smile you dislike. Whether it’s through teeth whitening and veneers, or composite bonding and ceramic braces – we can help.
FAQ
What happens during my first appointment?
If you’re a new patient to the practice, we will carry out the examinations listed above, in addition to a set of X-rays to establish a full picture of your health. It’s also important to us that we understand what your goals are when it comes to your smile, so we can help you achieve them.
How often should I visit the dentist?
We recommend that patients visit us every 6-12 months, depending on their individual dental health and needs. Your dentist will make you aware of when they next recommend you visit after your routine appointment with us.
